Hi, Iโm Shinobu, the editor in charge of Atmophโs landscape content. When you think of June, what comes to mind?
For many people in Japanโincluding meโthe answer is probably โtsuyu,โ the rainy season. I actually like the gentle, humid atmosphere of tsuyu, but on those sticky, muggy days Iโd rather stay indoorsโฆ Thatโs exactly when the June-filmed views on Atmoph Window shine.
Rain in Himuro Pond
This rainy scene was shot at Kajลซ-ji Temple in Yamashina-ku, Kyoto. The garden pond, Himuro-ike, got its name in the Heian period, when ice cut from its surface was presented at the imperial court and the thickness of the ice was read as an omen for that yearโs harvest.
Raindrops ripple across the water where pure-white lotus blossoms float. Itโs a beautifully atmospheric tableauโperfect for savoring during the rainy season.
Hydrangeas of Yoshimine Temple
Nothing says โrainy seasonโ like hydrangeas. Blue and soft-purple blooms look especially lovely in the rain. On the mountainside grounds of Yoshiminedera Temple in Nishikyล-ku, Kyoto, we found vibrant hydrangeas in full bloom.
Hydrangeas are native to Japan, yet many ornamental varieties are cultivated worldwide. On Atmoph Window you can see them not only in Japan but also in Dutch landscapes. Itโs delightful to think this flower has traveled so far from home.
Shiratani Unsuikyo
Our Yakushima footage was captured in June. The island is famed for โ35 days of rain each month,โ and June is especially wet.
Even so, the day we filmed offered bright intervals, letting us record sparkling greens deep in the forest of Shiratani Unsuikyo. Moss in tsuyu is said to appear even richer as it drinks in moistureโimmerse yourself in this mystical sea of green.
Waikiki Beach
Changing gears from rainy Japan, letโs head to Hawaiiโs cloudless blue sky and ocean. Our Oโahu collection was filmed in June, when Honolulu enjoys dry weather and an average temperature of about 26 ยฐC.
If you crave sunshine on a rainy day, open your virtual window to Waikiki Beach and let the waves wash over you with resort vibes.
Acropolis of Athens
Athens has a steppe climateโdry, with virtually no rain in summer. Our mid-June shoot was flawless, with crystal-clear air that made both the Acropolis hill and the city below stand out in sharp relief.
Dominating the center is the Parthenon, the supreme masterpiece of Doric architecture completed in 438 BC. From rainy Japan, allow your thoughts to wander to the grand romance of ancient Greece
How did you like these June landscapes from Japan and around the world? Whether itโs Kyotoโs gentle drizzle or Hawaiiโs brilliant sunshine, each has its own charm. Iโm inspired to hunt for some lovely June scenery around my neighborhood, too. Have a wonderful June!
